The National Priorities Project have put together a very cool running calculator of what we could have bought for the US if we had chosen peace over war. Makes you think pretty hard about what our government spends money on, and how shameful it’s current priorities are. Making KBR, Bechtel, and Haliburton rich while we leave our children to wallow in the dust of a future fallen and broken empire…

My mom sent me a really touching letter earlier today, talking about her own connections to her high school friends, that time in her life, and what it felt like to see me during this visit. I guess it must be a little hard for my parents to see my life in the little flashes and glimses they get, and for the most part my visits with them are some of the best and most relaxing times I have these days, so perhaps they don’t really see my life as it is out here in the world that much. It’s hard I suppose to both find out who you are and want to be in this world and to keep your parents closely in your life the way they were back when you lived at home. (ha, or maybe it’s mostly just hard for me, I do dislike phones so…)

Anyhow Viva mom & dad, apple pie, and trips home where you get to sleep in your old room. =)
